The TV series "Yellowstone" starring Kevin Costner has been very popular over the past several years. The show is loosely based on the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch, which is the largest ranch in the United States located in Montana.
Earlier this week, a truck showing the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch logo was spotted outside the Fort Simpson plant. No word on whether Mr. Costner was in town to apply for a position with NTPC.

An outdoor rink at the Ingamo Hall Friendship Centre in Inuvik is now available for night-time hockey and skating thanks to a co-operative effort of NTPC, the Union of Northern Workers (UNW) and the Inuvik line crew.
UNW Local 19 donated a streetlight, NTPC donated use of the equipment needed to install the streetlight and the line crew donated their time to install much needed lighting over the outdoor rink. Use of the rink is expected to increase significantly now that lighting is in place.
A huge shoutout to the Line Crew for recognizing an opportunity to improve recreational opportunities for local residents and stepping up to bring the project to fruition! Great work!!

The annual Children's Christmas Party in Hay River, sponsored jointly by the Union of Northern Workers and the Social Committee, was held earlier this month.
Kids participated in fun activities such as crafts, games and making gingerbread houses. And there was food provided!

The following news released was issued today announcing the recipient of the first annual Norman McBride Scholarship.
HAY RIVER, Northwest Territories (December 12, 2023) The Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC) is pleased to announce the recipient of the first annual Norman McBride Scholarship. Anais Aubrey-Smith from Fort Smith, NT has been awarded the $2000 McBride Scholarship, which was established in 2022 to acknowledge the dedication, contribution and loyalty of long-term NTPC employee, Norman McBride.
Anais was also awarded a $1,000 bursary as part of NTPC’s Student Bursary Program. A bursary of $1,000 is available to one student in every community the Corporation services or has a presence. The bursary program is open to all current post-secondary students who attended high school in the Northwest Territories.
A total of six bursaries were awarded in 2023 to students from Inuvik, Norman Wells, Deline, Yellowknife, Hay River and Fort Smith. The bursary winners are enrolled in programs such as Business Administration, Engineering and Industrial Heavy Equipment Technology.
In addition to the regular criteria to qualify for NTPC’s Bursary Program, the criteria for the Norman McBride Scholarship are as follows:
Applications for the 2024 bursaries and McBride Scholarship will be available next fall.
NTPC is a wholly owned subsidiary of NT Hydro, which in turn is 100 percent owned by the Government of the Northwest Territories.
