Safety Performance Recognition From our Peers

The Canadian Electricity Association (CEA) presented NTPC with a 2019 Occupational Health and Safety Award at a ceremony in Ottawa last month. Noel Voykin was present to accept the award

We were recognized for safety performance in distribution systems for smaller utilities. Each year, CEA tracks the safety record of its members and recognizes the best performers as part of their Occupational Health and Safety Awards program.  

This type of recognition from our peers is gratifying but there is always room for improvement. All it takes is one moment of inattention or one careless decision and an injury can occur.

Congratulations to everyone. Let’s continue to work together to strengthen our safety culture and safety programming for the well-being of all workers.

Updated -- Other Duties As Assigned

A blizzard over the weekend in Paultauk will require Plant Superintendent Desmond Ruben to perform slightly different duties this morning. Access to the local plant has been cut off by large snowbanks at both the front and rear doors -- lots of snow clearing to be done before anyone can enter the building.

Good luck to Desmond and other Paulatuk residents as they dig out from the storm.

 

 

                

Innovative Thinking = Cost Savings

NTPC has installed and commissioned a used Caterpillar 3508B diesel generator to replace an aging unit in Deline. By purchasing the used rather than a new generator, it is anticipated that there have been cost savings of approximately $400,000 for the Corporation and customers. We were able to purchase the unit for a very favourable price.

An overhaul of the unit was necessary prior to it being ready for use but the refurbished unit is expected to provide power in Deline for up to 20 years.

This is a great demonstration of the kind of innovative thinking that is necessary to help us achieve the ultimate goals of our Strategic Plan. We must all continue to look for ways to keep costs down if we are going to be able to keep electricity rates affordable for our customers.
