Updated Safe Work Practice 1.34: Working at Hydro Sites During Pandemic

Safe Work Practice 1.34: Working at Hydro Sites During Pandemic has been updated to require COVID-19 testing in certain situations (see table below). 

All NTPC employees and contractors are required to abide by the current versions of these documents, found on PowerLine.  Please review the documents that pertain to your field of duties.

Added section 8.3: COVID-19 Testing Added “Workers travelling to an NTPC hydro site from a community experiencing a COVID-19 outbreak shall be tested for COVID-19 and be confirmed negative before travelling to site.”
Significant Honour for NTPC Employee

Congratulations to Ian Flood, Asset Manager, Thermal, who has been announced as the winner of this year’s AMP Capstone Award, which is presented by the Plant Engineering & Maintenance Association of Canada) Ian has been recognized for a paper he wrote in 2020 titled: “NTPC Asset Management Systems (Including the Management of One Critical Asset)”, which was completed as part of a course Ian took through Humber College in Ontario focused on Asset Management Professional Certification.

As the award winner, Ian has been invited to present at the MainTrain online conference in September. This is Canada’s largest annual maintenance and physical asset management conference exhibition and networking event. MainTrain gathers leading experts, practitioners and professionals from across Canada and around the world to share insights and strategies that support professionals and their organizations.

This is a tremendous honour for Ian and highlights the fact that NTPC is fortunate to employ talented and respected professionals.

T & D Completes Tower Work in Fort Smith Area

Over the past couple of weeks, the T & D team has been working on towers and other infrastructure in the Fort Smith area. Over time, some of the towers had begun to lean and had to be returned to upright. The photo above shows the before and after of work done on one of the tower anchors.

Updated Safe Work Practice 1.33: Working in Plants & Communities During Pandemic

Safe Work Practice 1.33: Working in Plants & Communities During Pandemic has been updated.  The table below contains a summary of key changes. 

All NTPC employees and contractors are required to abide by the current versions of the SWPs documents, found on PowerLine.  Please review the documents that pertain to your field of duties.

8.4: Entering Communities with Active COVID-19 Cases

Added option to use other designated employees or food delivery services to bring groceries to visiting employees.

8.8: Worksite Entry Requirements

Added ability to allow workers in non-hub communities that are infected with COVID-19 to conduct basic plant checks and maintenance, under certain conditions. Director approval required.

Maintenance crews and infected workers cannot occupy a building at the same time, and cleaning protocols must be followed.

8.9 Vehicle Travel

Added option to use taxis or rental vehicles in a community if visiting workers are not comfortable using the plant vehicle. Cleaning protocols must be followed.

 

Hay River Plays Ball

The Hay River Social Committee never rests! The latest family event was Slow Pitch followed by a BBQ. I think we can say fun was had by all! There were some epic plays (and a few misses - that's part of the game), culminating in huge comeback in the last inning so the teams were only two points apart! What a nailbiter! Thankfully there were burgers and hot dogs for days to feed the hungry players and their fans after all the excitement.
