A new type of protective device, called a TripSaver, was installed on the distribution line to Dettah recently. This device allows for instantaneous tripping and reclosing for momentary faults.  It is less expensive than a line recloser and it is also possible for it to be installed in an existing cut-out switch. The potential usefulness of this device on NTPC's system was identified by Power Lineperson Deaon Hope. Thank-you Deaon for your efforts to improve service to our customers and lower operational costs!

On Thursday, March 3, Hay River Town Council passed a motion to move forward with the next steps towards Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC) acquiring the electrical distribution system and entering into a franchise agreement to distribute electricity to the town. The Town's franchise agreement with its current service provider, Northland Utilities expires in November, 2016.

NTPC is pleased to offer affordable power, along with the reliable power we already provide, to the residents and businesses of Hay River.

  • The rates in our proposal bring Hay River in line with other South Slave communities already served by NTPC.
  • The proposed rate overall, will be at least 20% lower than current rates.
  • NTPC is happy to be serving the people of Hay River where our 80 employees and our head office reside.
  • As part of the transition process, NTPC will offer jobs to employees of the existing franchise.
