NTPC has tools that can help create engaging displays at community events, school presentations, and safety demonstrations. In addition to posters and backdrops to "set the stage", we have an electrical safety demonstration model called the Hazard Hamlet, and a Generator Bike.
Hazard Hamlet
The Hazard Hamlet illustrates common electrical hazards that may be encountered in homes or community settings, such as overloaded outlets, frayed cords on appliances, and accidental contact with overhead lines. It can be used to lead discussions on safety in small group settings, such as classroom presentations or as an attention-catching element of a booth in larger events.
A video showing the Hazard Hamlet in operation is available on YouTube, and the instruction / operating manual can be downloaded here.
To book the Hazard Hamlet for your event, send a meeting request to [email protected] through Outlook. You will be contacted to confirm the availability of the equipment and to arrange for shipping from Hay River. Book early to ensure availability, and to allow time for shipping and practise before your event!
Generator Bike
The Generator Bike is a stationary bicycle, with an electrical generator built into the front wheel.
Electricity generated by pedalling the bike is used to power a "charging desk" with eight USB outlets. The outlets on the charging desk can be used to charge or operate any USB-powered devices, such as cell phones, iPads, computer speakers, and more. A stand-up "sandwich board" can be used with the bike to advertise it as a charging station at large events, such as trade shows and career fairs, or to illustrate the science behind electricity generation.
A user guide, with set-up instructions, operating tips, and answers to frequently asked questions can be found here.
