Although dewatering at Taltson is not scheduled to begin for another week (May 5), work on the hydro unit overhaul is already moving forward. Taltson has been a very active place over the past couple of years with construction of a new camp and lots of other work required in advance of the overhaul.
Over the past several weeks, employees and contractors have been preparing the new rotor for installation once the unit is ready for it. Photos showing some this work can be found on our external website at this link.
The Taltson overhaul is one of the largest projects in NTPC's history and is expected to take approximately six months to complete. During the construction period, hydro communities in the South Slave will be powered by local diesel plants.
