As we head into the busy summer season, it’s a good time to remember the hazard of complacency. Complacency can happen when everyone believes that all possible hazards are accounted for and controlled, which results in reduced attention to the task. Though you might think this does not apply to you, it can be as simple as letting your guard down, zoning out, losing focus, or not recognizing and documenting hazards and controls.
Take time to be mindful, careful, and keep focus on your task by doing thorough Tailboards at the beginning of your work or whenever change is introduced. Change can include the arrival or departure of workers, a shift in the scope of your task, or changing environmental conditions.
