There has been significant media and public interest in the high-water levels in the Taltson River that have caused damage to wildlife habitat, cabins and equipment. Some of those impacted have suggested that water releases from the Taltson Hydroelectric Facility were responsible for the flooding. NTPC has made it very clear in its media responses that this is not the case and that operations at Taltson should not be blamed for the naturally-occurring high water levels that can be found throughout the NWT and Northern Saskatchewan.
In response to the interest in this matter, we have prepared a backgrounder on how water is managed throughout the Taltson system. Thank you to everyone who was involved in preparation of this document.
