Project Manager Andrew Ellis recently had a particularly tough assignment. He was asked to judge a children's bridge building competition at the NWT Centennial Library (Hay River). NTPC sponsored a multi-week program which provided children with an opportunity to learn about the various factors that must be considered when engineering a bridge. The competition was held as part of National Engineering and Geosciences Week, supported by the Northwest Territories and Nunavut Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists (NAPEG).
The kids who were in attendance were very excited to test all of the bridges (not just their own) and seemed keen to participate again next year. The next NTPC-sponsored activity at the library is a Robotics Club. These types of programs help build enthusiasm for science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
