On January 7, 2019 NTPC presented its 20 Year Strategic Plan publicly for the first time when Colin Steed and Jay Grewal appeared before Yellowknife City Council. Council also received presentations from Andrew Stewart, Director of Energy Infrastructure with the GNWT, on the proposed expansion at Taltson and from the Chair of the Public Utilities Board on the regulatory process.
There was extensive media coverage on these presentations and I want to share some of it with you. The initial article contained major factual errors, some of which we have been able to correct in subsequent stories.
Over the coming months, we will continue to roll out the strategic plan to employees as well as to customers and other stakeholders to help them understand the steps we are taking to reduce the gap between electricity rates in the NWT and the Canadian national average. As we have told you in the past, there is no immediate quick fix. We need to successfully execute on the 20 Year Strategic Plan in order to achieve our goal and ensure that customers don’t have to choose between buying groceries or paying the electric bill.
