The Canadian Electricity Association (CEA) has declared October 2 as National Lineworker Appreciation Day. NTPC joins in recognizing the work that our line crews do every day, while often working in extreme conditions. However, we believe it is equally important to acknowledge the work that all of our employees do to keep the lights on.
Line workers have a challenging role, working in high-risk situations. Other employee groups, such as electricians, mechanics and plant superintendents, also have demanding roles to play in keeping electricity flowing to our customers. Superintendents, for example, are on call 24/7/365 and are our first line of defense in responding to blown fuses and other challenges that can arise at all hours.
We want to thank all employees for their contribution to ensuring that our customers receive reliable electricity right across the territory.
CEA is hosting a campaign kick-off event in Ottawa tomorrow, intended to educate the public and Parliamentarians on the importance of lineworkers in Canada. CEA’s Board of Directors has backed a plan to advocate for federal legislation designating July 10 as National Lineworker Appreciation Day. This would align with the Edison Electric Institute’s (EEI) established Lineworker Appreciation Day in the United States.
