Staff at Jackfish Lake played host to groups of grade 8 students for the Skills Canada Power Up! youth conferences on November 20 & 21. This event gives grade 8 students from Yellowknife and surrounding communities the opportunity to visit workplaces around the city to learn about careers in skilled trades and technology. NTPC has been participating in this event for the last three years, and many of our employees have taken up the challenge of representing their careers for the students.
This year's volunteer presenters included: Michelle Leger (Ft. Simpson), Erin Dean (Hay River), and Darren Hazenberg, Edwin Tejuco, Morris Callahan, Robert Burgin, Stuart Robinson and Eileen Hendry (Yellowknife). Special thanks also go out to Kristin Slade and Vern Gardiner (Hay River) for helping with the planning & making sure stuff was shipped on time, and to Kells Bissell and Lane Dewar (Yellowknife) for helping get everything set up in the K Plant.
For more photos from the Power Up! workshops, including some great shots of the girls watching Darren demonstrate a pole top rescue, check out this album on the Skills Canada NWT Facebook page.
