Colin Steed is singing the praises of employees for recent behaviour at Snare Forks, support that is echoed by Jay Grewal. During the scheduled shutdown, a complex job was underway that involved employees from both the Hydro and AME Divisions as well as contractors. Dennis Bourke, electrician with the Hydro Division, was concerned that he could not guarantee the safety of his co-workers and stopped all work until the situation could be resolved to his satisfaction.
The work stoppage was related to work protection isolation and uncertainty about lockout/tagout. Work was stopped for approximately one hour while all workers involved held discussions and verified that the appropriate isolations were in place before work resumed.
This type of situation is covered in NTPC’s Work Protection Code and Colin and Jay were very pleased to see that employees were aware of and adhered to that code.
