Protecting the VSG from Flooding

With flooding still underway along the Mackenzie River, there is concern that the variable speed generator in Aklavik might be vulnerable, as it sits on fairly low ground. Several options to mitigate the risk of damage from flooding were considered but the option chosen was to install a temporary dam around the VSG plant. The "dam" is filled with water and provides an increased level of protection to this key asset.

This technology can be used in future years in other communities that are threatened by floods. Great work by our Operations and Logisitics teams in bringing this technology to Aklavik.
